Rep. Young Comments on Obamacare Marketplace Estimates

Alaskan health insurance premiums will be the 3rd highest in U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released its estimates for the Health Insurance Marketplace premiums for 2014, one of the key pieces of Obamacare.  Alaskan Congressman Don Young commented today on the proposed data estimates for Alaska, whose premiums will be among the highest in the entire United States:

“When President Obama and his democrat colleagues forced the Affordable Care Act (ACA) down the throats of the American people, he promised that no one would be required to give up their current plan, be forced into a government exchange or have to pay more for insurance.  Plain and simple, the President lied.  Today his own Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) admitted what I and all House Republicans knew from day one, that ‘a one size fits all’ federal government plan was not the right approach.  Today’s report from HHS, shows that Alaskan households who do not qualify for a government subsidy will be forced to buy government-approved healthcare at costs which are the third highest in the nation, over $1,000 a month for a family of four.  According to a Medicare actuary, the ACA will increase health spending by approximately $620 billion above what Americans would otherwise be spending.”
