CURRENT EXHIBITS

BENEATH THE SURFACE

Special Exhibits Gallery— Through September 29, 2013

This exhibit explores the beauty and mystery of archaeology. Abstract paintings by Rebecca Crowell are paired with Kenai Peninsula artifacts from the Pratt collection. Crowell works with cold wax medium and oil to create a layered effect, similar to layers of sediment exposed during an archaeological excavation. A sound design with original compositions by New York City based musician David Crowell accompanies the visual display.

INSPIRED BY PLACE

Contemporary Art Gallery— Through December 30, 2013

The guest curator, Homer artist Ron Senungetuk, has selected works from the Pratt Museum’s permanent collection that reflect Homer and its environs, along with the culture and lifestyle of people from this region.

FACING THE ELEMENTS

Art on the Pratt Museum Forest Trail through the end of September

This outdoor exhibit is part of the forest landscape, and the artwork is completely exposed to the elements. Some pieces stay on the trail year-round.

HARRINGTON CABIN— Open Wed through Sat

Adjacent to the Museum, the cabin is filled with items like hand tools, antique appliances, daily diaries, and crochet work that show the lifestyle of hard-working people who homesteaded around Kachemak Bay.

BOTANICAL GARDENS

Stroll through the garden paths in front of the Museum to view over 100 plant species native to the Kenai Peninsula. Watch the plants take on their fall colors in this peaceful setting.

PUFFIN FILM IN THE MARINE GALLERY

Live video broadcasts of nesting seabirds on Gull Island are over for the season. Thanks to the Seldovia Native Association for their support of our Seabird Cam.  Museum visitors can now enjoy footage of a puffin pair and their chicks on Gull Island.

RITZ ART PREVIEW OPENING RECEPTION

Friday, October 4, from 5-7pm, Special Exhibits Gallery

This exhibit gives visitors a chance to preview the art that will be up for auction at the annual Ritz fundraiser event. The 2013 theme is Ritz at the Moulin Rouge , meant to reflect what’s known as  La Belle Epoque, a period characterized by peace and prosperity in Paris when the arts flourished. The Ritz Art Preview Exhibit remains on display through October 30.
