Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest Launches Campaign to Highlight Benefits of New Health Care Law
“Get Ready to Get Covered” Community Events Will Raise Awareness About Benefits and New Insurance Options Available on October 1
[Northwest] — On Saturday, September 21st, Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest will launch its first of many community events scheduled for the coming weeks to educate the Northwest about the availability and benefits of new health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act — also known as Obamacare. With enrollment in new plans set to begin on October 1, Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest will be working to educate community members in Alaska, Idaho and Washington about their new health care options and what Obamacare really means for them.
“Starting October 1, people without insurance will be able to enroll in new health insurance plans thanks to the Affordable Care Act,” said Elaine Rose, CEO of Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest. “For many women, Planned Parenthood is a trusted health care provider, so it just makes sense for us to help make sure that women in Alaska, Idaho and Washington get the information and help they need to get enrolled.”
Nationally, nearly 12 million uninsured women between 19 and 44 will become eligible for new health insurance either through Medicaid or state exchanges. In Alaska, Idaho and Washington, a combined 1,320,000 people are currently uninsured and over 1 million of them may be eligible for new coverage, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. As the nation’s leading provider of women’s health care, Planned Parenthood is committed to ensuring that these women and families understand what to look for in a health insurance plan so that it meets their unique health care needs, and how, when and why to enroll.
