Opera Fairbanks Presents “Britten and the Birds and the Bees”
Fairbanks, Alaska (AK) — Opera Fairbanks is pleased to present a concert for the Fairbanks community with a performance by guest artist mezza-soprano, Leneida Crawford.
On this 100th year anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Britten, audiences are invited to take a musical journey into his fascinating world with boisterous cabaret songs, clever songs of dogs and sheep, a charm of lullabies about snails and lizards and more.
Leneida Crawford will sing a collection of Benjamin Britten cabaret songs and other contemporary songs on Thursday, October 5, at Raven Landing at 7:30 p.m. She will be accompanied by Fairbanks pianist, Jamila Hla Shwe. Ms. Crawford recently appeared in the Opera Fairbanks 2011 production of Little Red Riding Hood in North Pole, AK.

Ms. Crawford was acclaimed as "an exceptional new performer" by Andrew Porter in "The New Yorker" The "San Francisco Chronicle" described Crawford as "a fine-grained mezzo-soprano of remarkable agility with viola-like colors. Ms. Crawford made her New York solo debut at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.
Dr. Leneida Crawford is a well-known artist to Washington, D.C. and Baltimore audiences, Crawford has appeared as a soloist at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall with Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Kennedy Center with The Paul Hill Chorale, Washington Oratorio Society and The Choral Arts Society of Washington. Crawford has recorded on the Albany and VOX labels and has appeared on CBS and PBS. She is an Associate Professor of voice and the vocal division leader at Towson University in Baltimore Maryland.
