In July 2013 Path to Prosperity was launched. The Southeast Alaska business competition is a partnership with the Haa Aani Community Development Fund and The Nature Conservancy.

Southeast Alaska’s rural communities are suffering high unemployment rates, the loss of traditional jobs and a stagnant economy. Many residents leave their home communities in search of opportunities in urban areas. This outmigration threatens the very fiber of rural community health and well-being.

Who Should Apply?

The competition is open to all residents of Southeast Alaska. This includes individuals, for-profit businesses and Tribal entities. Business concepts must be for a business located in Southeast Alaska.

Q: Is there a specific type of business idea that is ideal for the competition?

A: All business ideas are welcome. The scoring criteria gives more weight to business ideas that incorporate sustainability and conservation concepts.
