On Friday, September 6, 33 AmeriCorps Members throughout the Nine Star Education & Employment Services grant gathered to write thank you cards for four area fire stations.

The AmeriCorps Members wanted a special way to thank local service individuals and commemorate the anniversary of 9/11.

This project is also a culmination of two other projects.

In April 2012, AmeriCorps Members served with Anchorage youth at Kid’s Day to design quilt squares.  Then, this summer, The Anchorage Modern Quilt Guild put the squares together to form 11 quilts. Each quilt is unique with a child-like theme.

This last month the AmeriCorps Members collected 75+ slightly used and new stuffed animals.

Coming up on Saturday, September 14, AmeriCorps Member will visit four area fire stations and thank them for their service to our city. They will also be giving them the animals and quilts to distribute to those in need.
