Summary data on energy production, consumption, stocks, trade, prices, and emissions

The September 2012 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics, was released on September 26, 2012.  Preliminary data on commercial sector energy consumption indicate that for June 2012:

  • U.S. commercial sector total energy consumption equaled 1.4 quadrillion Btu, a 1-percent decrease from June 2011.
  • Electricity retail sales and electrical system energy losses accounted for 86 percent of commercial sector total energy consumption.
  • Natural gas accounted for 9 percent of commercial sector total energy consumption, petroleum accounted for 3 percent, and renewable energy accounted for 1 percent.

The MER provides monthly and annual data on total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; carbon dioxide emissions; and data unit conversions. See What’s New in the MER for a record of changes.
