Chugach Electric Saturday morning outage update

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. the 115-kilovolt transmission line tripped offline between the Anchorage Bowl and Cooper Landing.  

Loss of the line cut power to about 2,500 Chugach customers in Indian, Bird, Girdwood, Portage, Whittier, Sunrise, Hope and Summit Lake.

The Chugach crew that responded found trees blown into the transmission line  between Indian and Powerline Pass.  

The line was re-energized from the south as far as Indian at about 9:40, restoring power to all but the 173 customers served by the Indian Substation. They will remain out until the on-scene crew clears trees from the line.
