Blood Bank of Alaska Cancels Legislative Event at New Facility Construction Site Due to Inclement Weather

Anchorage, Alaska—Blood Bank of Alaska invited Alaska policymakers and community leaders to a site tour and project update at the future home of Blood Bank of Alaska, located at the intersection of Airport Heights and Debarr in Anchorage.  However, due to the current inclement weather forecast the event has been cancelled for the safety of those invited and staff.

“There has been site work completed this summer and we’re moving full speed ahead on overcoming funding challenges to build a new Blood Bank of Alaska facility for all Alaskans,” CEO Bob Scanlon said. “This new main center will consolidate our facilities separated all over Anchorage, and allow us to upgrade our laboratory and expand our office space. This new building is critical if Alaska hospitals and patient facilities hope to keep up with the changing nature of healthcare and growing population here in our state, and will be essential to emergency management and disaster relief planning, as well.”

Blood Bank of Alaska hopes to fund the building through a combination of State of Alaska capital appropriations, New Markets Tax Credits, foundation and individual charitable giving, and the sale of the currently-occupied Laurel Street facility. Blood Bank of Alaska’s new facility is scheduled to be completed in 2015.

The event that was to take place on Wednesday, September 19th at the new construction site is set to be rescheduled.
