Physician specializes in care for children with kidney disease
ANCHORAGE, AK - Maria Caimol, MD, who specializes in the treatment of pediatric kidney disease, has joined the Providence Pediatric Sub-Specialty Clinic. Dr. Caimol is skilled in treating congenital, acquired, acute and chronic kidney diseases, as well as performing dialysis. She is the only pediatric specialist in Alaska whose practice is dedicated to the care of infants and children with kidney and kidney-related disorders.
"We are extremely pleased that Dr. Caimol has chosen to join our medical staff," says Dr. Michael Acarregui, executive director of The Children's Hospital at Providence. "She is a strong addition to our team."
Dr. Caimol earned her medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, and completed her pediatrics residency training at the University of Illinois in Chicago and her fellowship training in pediatric kidney disease at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University. During her training at Stanford, she helped create a program that teaches adolescent patients how to be more involved in the management of their chronic kidney disease as they transition into adulthood.
"Patients with chronic kidney diseases can still have a good quality of life," says Dr. Caimol. "I encourage patients to participate in the management of their care so they can lead an active lifestyle."
