Governor Honors Service of Fallen Fort Wainwright Soldier
September 13, 2011, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sean Parnell offered his condolences to the family and friends of a Fort Wainwright soldier who was killed in a roadside bomb attack last week in Afghanistan. Private First Class Brett Everett Wood was on foot patrol when the attack occurred.
"We will never forget the sacrifices made by Private Wood and all those serving in uniform," Governor Parnell said. "This young man had already survived one bomb explosion, only to return to Afghanistan and demonstrate unimaginable valor for our country. Sandy and I will continue to pray for all of our service members serving at home and in harm's way."
Wood was assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Wainwright.
