Chef Kirsten Dixon to appear on NBC’s ‘Today’ Show
Chef Kirsten Dixon is scheduled to appear on NBC’s “Today” show on Friday, Sept. 16. Dixon, who co-owns the Within the Wild Adventure Company with her husband and two daughters, has been cooking in the backcountry of Alaska for more than 20 years.
In her segment, Dixon will be cooking with wild Alaska king crab, shipped to the NBC studio in New York City with the help of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute.
Dixon met "Today" show anchor Al Roker when he was in Alaska filming for the show in June. Roker launched the show’s “Lend a Hand” series in Anchorage and spent several days traveling Alaska, including time at Dixon’s Redoubt Bay Lodge, where the pair grilled salmon burgers for the camera. Roker’s “Alaska Adventure” segment aired on the “Today” show on Aug. 30.
Dixon attended Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in Paris, and earned a master’s degree in gastronomy from Adelaide University in Australia. She has written two cookbooks, including “The Winterlake Lodge Cookbook,” for which she won the Best Female Chef USA award at the Gourmand International Cookbook Awards in 2004. After many years of giving informal cooking classes at Winterlake Lodge, Dixon opened the Cooking School at Tutka Bay in 2010. She and her culinary team lead daily classes based on several global cuisine themes throughout the summer season. Dixon is currently at work on her third cookbook, and writes a weekly cuisine column for AlaskaDispatch.com. More details can be found at www.kirstendixon.com.
