Anchorage School District honored for excellence in financial reporting
District honored for excellence in financial reporting ASD earns top honors for 28th year
At its meeting tonight, the Anchorage School Board will recognize the Accounting, Accounts Payable, Budget and Payroll departments for their excellence in financial reporting. The recognition follows the district receiving the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010. The award is the highest honor presented by the Government Finance Officers Association.
The association rated the district's CAFR as meeting the highest standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential user groups to read the document.
"We believe it's vital to be transparent and accountable to the community," said Chad Stiteler, Chief Financial Officer. "The CAFR is a great summary of the work my staff does each and every day and it is a pleasure to be recognized for our efforts again this year."
The district has received this award consecutively since 1988, and on five occasions prior to that date.
The board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the ASD Education Center. The recognition memo (#51) is available online in the board memo archives or directly through this link: www.asdk12.org/School_Board/archives/2011-2012/20110912/C02M051.pdf.
The district's Business Management division was also recently honored with the Certificate of Excellence from the Association of School Business Officials International. This represents the 27th year the district has been recognized by ASBO.
