Governor Parnell Appoints Thomas Nave to Juneau Bench
September 24, 2010, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sean Parnell announced his selection of Thomas Nave to the Juneau District Court.
Nave is a graduate of Oregon State University and Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College. He began his legal career as an associate in private practice before joining the Public Defender Agency, first as a trial lawyer and then as the deputy director. In 1985, he formed Gullufsen and Nave and practiced there until 1991. Since that time, he has remained a sole practitioner in Juneau with emphasis on criminal defense, personal injury, and legal malpractice. Nave is a former member of the Alaska Judicial Council and currently serves on the Alaska Commission on Judicial Conduct.
Alaska's District Courts have jurisdiction over state misdemeanors and violations of city and borough ordinances. They may also hold preliminary hearings in felony cases, try civil cases valued at less than $100,000 and small claims cases valued at less than $10,000, hear domestic violence cases, and issue summonses, arrest warrants and search warrants.
