Fred Meyer Helps Anchorage Museum Offer Free Admission Days

The Anchorage Museum will offer free admission 3 to 9 p.m. Thursdays October through April 2011 thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Fred Meyer Fund.

Fred Meyer Free After 3 Thursdays at the museum gives all Alaskans the opportunity to immerse themselves in lifelong learning and acquire a deeper understanding of the human experience through art, history and science exhibitions.

"We've had extended Thursday hours all summer, and it's been popular with tourists, so we wanted to continue to let residents visit during a less crowded time. This generous gift from the Fred Meyer Fund offers our community a free way to visit us more often and enjoy the new Imaginarium Discovery Center and Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center," said Museum Director James Pepper Henry.

The Fred Meyer Fund assists nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping children and reducing hunger in communities served by 130 Fred Meyer stores in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska. The Fred Meyer Fund is supported by parent company The Kroger Co. as well as employee and customer donations. Annually the fund gives more than $1.3 million to communities where Fred Meyer employees and customers live and work.

"The Fred Meyer Fund was particularly impressed by the successful track record of the Anchorage Museum and its programs," said Glynda Brockhoff, philanthropy coordinator for Fred Meyer stores and the Fred Meyer Fund. "We hope this grant will help the museum continue the important work it's doing to enrich the community."
