BBB Release: Mark The Calendar For BBB's Event Line-Up
BBB Anti-Fraud and Community Recognition Events For Alaska
Anchorage, Alaska – Sept. 21, 2010 – Better Business Bureau serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington announces upcoming anti-fraud events and ethics education programs:
Secure Your ID Day: BBB offers a free shredding and cell phone recycling event to help prevent identity theft on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wells Fargo on Northern Lights and C Street in Anchorage. Thank you to partners: Wells Fargo, Shred Alaska and Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Alaska.
· Shred: Drive up and drop off unwanted documents to be securely shredded on-the-spot by Shred Alaska. No cardboard or three-ring binders please. 100% of the materials will be recycled.
· Cell Phones: Recycle used cell phones for FREE, courtesy of The Wireless Alliance. All data will be securely wiped from collected phones; or consumers can remove data before donating: check out the Free Data Eraser or Data Erase Instructional Videos.
Scam Jam: Attend this free anti-fraud seminar to hear from AARP Alaska about "Identity Theft & Weapons of fraud" and Anchorage Police Department about "2010 Electronic Fraud Trends in Anchorage." Thursday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Anchorage Senior Activity Center, 1300 East 19th Ave. in Anchorage.
2011 Business of the Year Torch Awards: It's time to nominate those who motivate: Submit a nomination for any business—of any size—that demonstrates excellent customer service, community involvement and innovative business practices. Candidates must be submitted by Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010.
2011 Students of Integrity Scholarships: To support students who value ethics, BBB is accepting applications for $1,000 scholarships; one high school student from each state—Western Washington, Oregon and Alaska—will be awarded. Students graduating in 2011 or 2012 are eligible to apply. All submissions must be postmarked by Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010.
