Anchorage construction projects and events causing traffic delays Sept. 16

Road Project Traffic Delays Last Updated September 16, 2010

Thank you for visiting Anchorageroads.org.  Please expect road construction at the following locations:

1) Klatt Rd. at C St. The intersection of Klatt Rd. and C St. will be closed beginning Thursday, September 16th at 9:00 AM through Monday, September 20th at 6:00 AM for final paving. The roundabout will then be open for traffic, weather permitting.

The construction of the Klatt Rd./C St. roundabout consists of 3 phases in which only one leg of the intersection will be closed in each phase. A final, full intersection closure phase will occur during a September weekend.

Phase 1: Closure of the Klatt Rd. leg (west of the intersection) for approximately 2 weeks, has allowed the project to begin. The other two legs of the intersection will remain open (July 21 - August 7). OPEN

Phase 2: Closure of the C St. leg for approximately 3 weeks, while the other two legs remain open (August 7 - August 30). OPEN

Phase 3: Closure of the Klatt Rd. leg (east of the intersection) for approximately 3 weeks, while the other two legs remain open (August 30 - September 15). CLOSED

Please use caution and obey all traffic control devices.

2) International Airport Rd. and Old Seward Hwy. The International Airport Rd. and Old Seward Hwy. intersection will be closed from Friday, September 17th at 8:00 PM through Monday, September 20th at 6:00 AM.

Business access will remain open. Follow construction signs for detour routes. Expect lane restrictions and short delays at all other times.

3) Hillcrest Dr. between Spenard Rd. and Forest Park Dr. On Saturday, September 18th between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, drivers should expect a full road closure on Hiilcrest Dr. between Spenard Rd. and Forest Park Dr. for median repairs. Please follow detour routes.

4) Gambell St. at E. 13th Ave. Drivers should expect daily lane restrictions and delays on E. 13th Ave. between Fairbanks St. and Ingra St. between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM for road improvements. Please follow appropriate detour routes.

5) Arctic Blvd. at Arctic Spur Rd. At other times, drivers should expect intermittent lane restrictions and flagging operations on Arctic Blvd. between Raspberry Rd. and International Airport Rd. for road improvements. Please use caution when in the area.

6) G St. between W. 5th Ave. and W. 9th Ave. Drivers should expect intermittent lane and road closures on G St. between W. 5th Ave. and W. 9th Ave. for water utility upgrades. One lane of G St. will remain open between W. 5th Ave. and W. 7th Ave. throughout construction. There will be no on-street parking in this area. Access to parking garages will remain open.

The G St. exit/entrance to the alley behind City Hall will be closed.

7) Lake Otis Pkwy. and Tudor Rd. Intersection Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures.

8) W. 9th Ave. between E St. and I St. Drivers should expect a full road closure on W. 9th Ave. between C St. and E St. This closure is expected to be closed at least one week. Drivers should also expect lane restrictions on W. 9th Ave. between C St. and A St.

Please follow appropriate detour routes and construction signs.

9) E. 88th Ave. between Lake Otis Pkwy. and Little Brook Cir. Drivers should expect intermittent full road closures on E. 88th Ave. between Lake Otis Pkwy. and Little Brook Cir. for road and pedestrian improvements. Please follow detour routes. Residents will maintain access.

10) Old Glenn Hwy. from West Lake Ridge Dr. to S. Birchwood Loop Rd. Drivers should expect single lane traffic from West Lake Ridge Dr. to Fire Lake Dr. between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, through Sunday, September 19th. Be alert to lane restrictions and flagging operations through the work zone.

11) B St. between 40th Ave. and Tudor Rd. Drivers should expect an intermittent full road closure on B St. between 40th Ave. and Tudor Rd. for road improvements. Please follow detour routes.

12) Old Glenn Hwy. between S. Birchwood Lp. Rd. and Peter's Creek Drivers should expect lane restrictions and delays on the Old Glenn Hwy. from South Birchwood Loop Rd. to Ski Rd. between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

13) Glenn Hwy. - Eagle River to Parks Hwy. Beginning Friday, September 17th at 8:00 PM until Monday, September 20th at 6:00 AM, the northbound lanes of the Glenn Hwy. between the S. Eagle River interchange and the N. Eagle River interchange will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to one of the southbound lanes, reducing traffic on the Glenn Hwy. to single lane traffic in each direction. Please use extreme caution when traveling through the work zone. Expect delays and reduced speed limits.

These schedules are weather dependent and may be postponed until the weekend of Friday, September 24th until Monday, September 27th at 6:00 AM. Be alert to abrupt edges due to paving operations.

17) Mountain View Dr. at McCarrey St. Drivers should expect an intermittent eastbound lane shift on Mountain View Dr. at McCarrey St. for sidewalk/trail improvements and an intermittent full road closure on McCarrey between Mountain View Dr. and Chena for sidewalk/trail improvements. Pedestrians will maintain access. Please follow appropriate detour routes.

20) Providence Dr. between Wellness St. and Piper St. Beginning Friday, September 17th at 8:00 PM through Monday, September 20th at 6:00 AM, drivers should lane restrictions and flagging operations on Providence Dr. between Wellness St. and Piper St. for traffic signal maintenance. Please follow flagger instructions and use caution in the area.
