Sen. Begich Comments on Boxer-Kerry Climate Change Bill

U.S. Sen. Mark Begich released the following statement Sept. 30  following the release of the Boxer-Kerry Climate Change bill:

"Our nation is experiencing dramatic changes from climate change and no one knows that better than Alaskans who are at ground zero for its impacts. It's clear the federal government needs to act, in partnership with state and local governments and industry.

"I appreciate the efforts of Senators Boxer and Kerry to deal with climate change through the bill they released today. This bill is a solid first start with many placeholders and lots of room for improvement.

"For example, the Senate bill appears to have made some incremental progress over the House bill in making natural gas a higher national priority. That's a good step for Alaska, and I want to make sure the bill protects Alaska jobs and meets the needs of our state. I look forward to working with the sponsors and the Senate leadership as this bill moves through the committee process."
