HUD Deputy Secretary Ron Sims To Visit Anchorage To Discuss Homelessness & Sustainable Housing in a Cold Climate
Ron Sims, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, will visit Alaska for the first time on Thursday, October 1st.
On Thursday morning Deputy Secretary Sims will chair a round-table discussion on "Sustainable Housing in a Cold Climate" to help HUD identify short- and long-term strategies to address the deterioration of housing units in rural villages as a result of Alaska's unique climate. Other participants will include the Cold Climate Housing Research Center of Fairbanks, the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation and USDA Rural Development. This event is open to the press.
On Thursday afternoon, October 1st, Deputy Secretary Sims will meet with Anchorage homeless providers to discuss the barriers they face in serving Alaska's homeless. This conversation is a follow-up to a request made by HUD Secretary Donovan for a working paper on the subject during the Secretary's visit to Alaska in August. This event also is open to the press.
