Governor Parnell Mourns the Loss of Fort Richardson Paratrooper
September 7, 2009, ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Governor Sean Parnell offered his condolences to the family of a Fort Richardson soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.
"Second Lieutenant Darryn Andrews will always be remembered for his bravery and willingness to put his life on the line to serve his country," Governor Parnell said. "Sandy and I will keep his family, friends and fellow soldiers in our thoughts and prayers."
Andrews, 34, of New Braunfels, Texas, died in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, when his military vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device and a rocket-propelled grenade. He was assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.
A letter of condolence and state flag will be sent to his family.
