REMINDER: METS Abstract Submission Deadline November 1st, 2013

Dear Colleagues,

The 2nd Annual Marine Energy Technology Symposium (METS, ocs.sfu.ca/mets) will be held on April 15th-18th in Seattle, WA in conjunction with the Global Marine Renewable Energy Conference (GMREC, globalmarinerenewable.com). METS provides a venue where technical experts can present and publish wave, water current, and ocean thermal energy research that accelerates the pace of technology development. Holding METS in conjunction with GMREC provides researchers with the invaluable opportunity to interact with public sector and private industry stakeholders.

Last year's inaugural METS was a great success and consisted of over 40 technical presentations and 30 technical papers. All accepted papers were submitted to a rigorous peer-review process and were published in open-access format at www.globalmarinerenewable.com/mets.

Call for papers: The METS 2014 organizing committee is seeking papers that focus on the design, analysis, and economic evaluation of marine energy converter technologies that harness the power of wave energy, tidal/ocean/river current energy, and ocean thermal energy. This year, we are also adding an environmental research track to encourage dissemination of environmental research that is relevant to the marine energy industry. Specific areas of interest are:

*Device design, analysis, and simulation

*Design optimization methods

*Materials and coatings

*Design and analysis of mooring systems

*Array optimization and layout

*Environmental monitoring

*Device deployment strategies

*Operations and maintenance strategies

*Cost-of-energy modeling

*Validation & verification of numerical models

All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed and authors who have their final paper accepted for publication will be given the opportunity to give a 25-minute presentation at METS describing their work. Information on how to prepare and submit abstracts and full papers can be found at ocs.sfu.ca/mets.

The METS paper submission and publication schedule is as follows:

*Abstract submission deadline: October 25th, 2013 November 1st, 2013

*Author notification of abstract acceptance: November 1st, 2013 November 8th, 2013

*Draft paper submission deadline: January 24th, 2014

*Author notification of reviewer comments / revision requirements: February 21st, 2014

*Submission of revised paper: March 21st, 2014

*Podium Presentations at METS Symposium: April 15-18th, 2014

Please visit the METS Website (ocs.sfu.ca/mets) and GMREC Website (globalmarinerenewable.com) for more information. Contact Samantha Rooney (samantha.rooney@nrel.gov) if you have any further questions about METS.

We'll see you in Seattle!
