Observations of 2012 storm damage to Anchorage trees
(Anchorage, AK) – This week, Anchorage once again experienced strong winds, serving as a reminder of the extensive damage that occurred last year to trees in forests, yards, and along the streets of Anchorage.
The Alaska Division of Forestry Community Forestry Program has released a report of observations and photos from the 2012 wind event that describes how proper plant selection, planting, and maintenance can reduce tree failures. The report includes recommendations for preventing hazards and tree loss in future storms and for safe response and clean up following a storm.
The report is available at http://forestry.alaska.gov/community/publications.htm.
