Hollis French to Run for Alaska Lieutenant Governor
ANCHORAGE: State senator Hollis French (D-Anchorage) has filed to run for lieutenant governor. French said, "I have decided to take a step back and to support Byron Mallott for governor. I do not believe that a primary race serves Democrats or Alaska. With so much at stake in this election, I believe it is imperative that we Democrats and we Alaskans pull together as a team. Byron Mallott is going to make an excellent governor and I look forward to serving with him."
First elected to the state senate in 2002, French is in his fourth term. Before being elected to the senate French worked a dozen years in Alaska's oil fields. He then went to law school and subsequently joined the Anchorage District Attorney's office as a prosecutor until his election as a state senator.
