GCI offers furlough freebie

With an estimated 13,000 Alaskans furloughed by the U.S. government shutdown, GCI is providing its subscribers financial relief. With proof of federal employment, GCI is issuing furloughed employees one month of free service on its wireless, video and broadband plans. GCI introduced the federal employee promotion in Southeast Alaska earlier this month and is now providing the benefit statewide, which might make a nice roundup feature of local community efforts during the furlough.

To receive the credit, furloughed federal employees must provide proof of federal employment, such as a federal identification card, at a GCI retail store. The credit is for one month free on existing GCI services and is only available while the federal furlough is active.

GCI customers should call 1-800-800-4800 for more information on applying for the credit.
