Alaska Forum on the Environment, 2014! Important October deadlines!

Alaska Forum on the Environment, 2014

The 16th annual Alaska Forum on the Environment will be held February 3-7, 2014.  Registration services are now available and registering with a discounted rate will make the best use of your training dollars.  The agenda is in development but promises to provide important environmental information affecting Alaska.  Registration is available online at http://www.akforum.org

The Alaska Forum on the Environment (AFE) is a statewide gathering of environmental professionals from government agencies, non-profit and for-profit businesses, community leaders, Alaskan youth, conservationists, biologists and community elders. The diversity of attendees sets this conference apart from any other. The 2014 event will be the 16th year providing a strong educational foundation for all Alaskan's and a unique opportunity to interact with others on environmental issues and challenges.  Over 1,500 people attend AFE to learn more about the environment and meet other Alaskans that work in the environmental field.

Environmental Education Funding Opportunity for Youth Projects

The Alaska Forum, with the support of EPA, is offering funding opportunities of up to $5,000 through the Community Environmental Education Stewardship through Youth Involvement Project.  This program will support focused proposals from small communities (population less than 50,000 in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, or Washington) where youth seek involvement in environmental stewardship efforts.  Proposals will be selected where youth are matched with a local environmental professional or teacher who will mentor youth as they address a specific concern in the community and work to solve it. Non-profit 501c3 organizations, middle schools and high schools or districts must serve as the fiscal agent of the grant award.  Tribes can be instrumental in encouraging project submissions for their communities and serving as the environmental mentors required for these projects.

Download the Request for Proposal document for detailed information.

Deadline for submittals is October 31, 2013. The RFP can be downloaded at http://www.akforum.org/PDFs/RFP2013.pdf

Call for Presentations

The Alaska Forum on the Environment is pleased to provide an opportunity for individuals, organizations, agencies, and businesses to propose a technical breakout presentation for the February 3-7th, 2014 event. The Alaska Forum seeks presentations on topics that address technical, scientific or general information on environmental issues. Approved presentations are typically educational in content and information-based. Where topics represent a controversial issue, sessions must include a range of information that shares a full understanding of the diversity of perspectives about an issue. Topics that promote a product, service or single position on an issue are not generally considered.

Submittal of your Presentation suggestion can be done online now through October 31st!
