20 Mile Late Season Goat Hunt Opens

Twentymile Drainage Registration Goat Hunt Opens

(Anchorage) – Resident-only, registration permit hunt RG862 for mountain goats in the Twentymile area of Game Management Unit 14C will open on November 1, 2013. Registration for this hunt will be available online or in person at Anchorage, Soldotna, and Palmer Alaska Department of Fish and Game offices starting on Tuesday, October 29.

Anchorage area wildlife biologist Jessy Coltrane said two mountain goat units have been harvested from the Twentymile area out of a quota of nine goat units. Therefore, additional hunting opportunity is warranted. Total goat units are calculated using one unit for billies and two units for nannies. The take of no more than nine goat units is consistent with the goal of maintaining appropriate population levels in this hunt area.

The hunt will close either on November 15 or when the quota of nine goat units is reached.
