Employees Volunteer in Recognition of Annual Swift Day
HOUSTON (October 17, 2012) – Swift Worldwide Resources, the premier supplier of manpower resources to the global Oil & Gas industry, recently stepped out in service around the world during its second annual “Swift Day,” a day of giving back. On July 18, 275 Swift employees from 24 offices around the world were given the day off to volunteer in teams serving their local communities. As a group, Swift employees worked with more than 25 charitable organizations.
“We return to the office renewed by the experience and reminded of how blessed we are to be able to reach out to our neighbors and provide support where it is needed,” said Swift CEO Tobias Read who spent the day in Houston interacting with employee volunteer teams. “I am inspired by the generous, giving spirit of our employee teams around the world.”
Each team from all of the Swift offices selects its own service project, empowering employees to support an organization or cause that is meaningful to them. In Houston, Swift’s global headquarters, 70 employees spent the day in service with a variety of organizations. Swift’s volunteer efforts around the world impacted many community organizations:
Houston, Texas, USA, Swift Worldwide Resources Headquarters
Houston employees reached out in service to eight organizations in the community including the Houston Food Bank, preparing more than 5,000 pounds of food and 4,197 meals and saving the Food Bank $1,520 in labor costs through their volunteer efforts.
Employee teams also supported: Sheltering Arms Senior Services, a nonprofit organization committed to the health and well-being of older adults, providing prizes for bingo, played board games, and sang along to some Elvis Presley classics as well as the Rise School, an early education program for infants – pre-school children with developmental disabilities, helping with administrative work and in the classroom.
Employees volunteered at the Houston Area Women’s Center, a support center for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, assisting with fundraising as well as administrative and organizational duties; Kids’ Meals, a meals-on-wheels program that serves pre-school aged children living in poverty, making sandwiches and delivering lunches. The organization delivers food year-round to 1,700 children, serving over 390,000 lunches in 2011 and assembled care packages to support the troops overseas, shipping more than 15 packages to Afghanistan
One team member said, “On food delivery, we were able to see the reward of children’s faces lighting up at the site of our “Kids Meals Van” pulling up to deliver their lunches for the day. Seeing how just a few committed hours of our time helped make their whole day was a humbling and rewarding experience and one we will never forget.”
Midland, Texas, USA, Swift Office
The Midland office volunteered at a local non-profit organization, Mission Messiah, a home for women who have made bad decisions who are seeking help in a Christian environment to start over. This team helped improve their recreation room by painting and re-organizing the area.
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, Swift Office
The Dress For Success boutique in New Orleans benefitted from the Swift day of service. A team of employees visited the shop for a day of sorting and organizing clothing, deciding which garments were work or interview appropriate, and making additional room in the closet. Dress For Success provides women in need with an interview-appropriate outfit and five additional work outfits, when hired.
Whiting, Indiana, USA, Swift Office
Whiting employees volunteered their assistance to several organizations. They helped beautify two parks in Whiting and Hammond, Amoco and Forsythe parks. In addition, this office group is donating food to the local food bank.
Anchorage Alaska, USA, Swift Office
In Anchorage, the Swift employees spent their day of service helping with the maintenance of an Anchorage Rain Garden, natural habitat areas designed to control flooding and clean the natural waterways for fish and wildlife. Following this effort, 150 cats in the Alaska Humane Society were treated to a visit from the Swift team bringing donations of treats and toys as well as assistance with their care and treasured play time.
London, England, UK, Swift Office
Swift’s London office supported Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, an organization offering practical and emotional support to youth and their families dealing with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions, with their community service efforts. Taking a unique approach to Swift Day, the office divided into three teams and entered a friendly competition to raise money for the organization. Each team began the day with £50, donated by a London employee, and challenged to grow this into as much money as possible by the end of the day. Money was raised through raffles, car washes, and flower arrangement and cupcake sales. A total of £2,480.80 was raised for Noah’s Ark.
Another London employee group reached out to support a shelter for homeless teens, the Teresa House. In addition to painting a “Tree of Life” mural to enhance the facility, the group also collected food and toiletries to donate to the shelter.
Calgary, Canada, Swift Office
The Canadian Swift employees spent their community service day preparing household items for distribution by Neighborlink, a non-for-profit organization providing assistance to families in need living under the poverty line with practical help and basic resources.
Murmansk, Russia, Swift Office
The Murmansk office service project is supporting the Murmansk Oceanarium, the only scientific establishment in Europe devoted to the study of Arctic animals. Swift employees provided a supper of fish for the resident grey, bearded and ringed seals; cleaned the auditorium and planted seasonal flowers on the grounds of the Oceanarium.
Sakhalin, Russia, Swift Office
In Sakhalin, the Swift office utilized their day of service to raise money for an 11-year-old girl who was tragically injured by a pneumatic gun blast resulting in a fragment located one mm from her brain and in need of surgery. This Swift office used a bake sale in the office building and at client locations to raise money for the family. Following their day of service the Swift team donated £4,500 to the girl’s family for her treatment.
Moscow, Russia, Swift Office
The Moscow Swift office shared their service efforts with the Center of Social Service Timiryazevsky, a center providing support to older and disabled people. They shared the gift of time, enriching the lives of the Center’s residents by offering companionship for the day.
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, Swift Office
The Brisbane employee group conducted a clothing drive for the local Red Cross and raised money for a donation to St. Vincent de Paul, an organization dedicated to assisting people affected by poverty with practical assistance, education and recreational programs.
Singapore, Swift Office
Swift’s Singapore employees volunteered their time to help with cleaning at the community hospital, long-term care and nursing home facility, Ren Ci Hospital. It was established by a small group of volunteers and healthcare professionals to provide compassionate care for chronically ill patients in need of assistance.
Chengdu, China, Swift Office
Dikangle Kindergarten, located in Mianzhu and seriously damaged by an earthquake four years ago, received assistance from the Swift team in China on their day of service. The school children, more than 100 kids from 2 to 6 years old in this rural area, received donations to their playground as well as the care and attention of Swift employees for playtime.
