Susitna-Watana Hydro Environmental Study Plan Update

The Alaska Energy Authority filed the Proposed Study Plan (which includes 58 individual environmental studies) with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on July 16. The deadline to comment on the Proposed Study Plan is Nov. 14 (project number 14241).

Since filing the proposed plan, AEA has worked with stakeholders and resource agencies to begin incorporating feedback and changes into a Revised Study Plan.  The Revised Study Plan will not be filed with FERC until December to ensure that comments received on the Proposed Study Plan are appropriately addressed.

To show progress in incorporating feedback and comments, AEA has begun posting draft revised study plans. Of the original 58 proposed study plans, 40 have been posted as draft revised documents.  Sixteen study plans have no significant changes and an additional two will be posted this week.  A table with the lists of the revised study plans is also available.

For brief background the Susitna-Watana Hydro team submitted a Proposed Study Plan with FERC on July 16.  The Proposed Study Plan includes 58 formal environmental studies to be conducted in 2013 and 2014. This is in addition to the 18 environmental studies conducted his field season. Technical Workgroup Meetings are held as part of the process to develop a Revised Study Plan. The Alaska Energy Authority is working with stakeholders to address comments and to incorporate them into the Revised Study Plan, to be filed with FERC in December.  (FERC is accepting comments on the Proposed Study Plan until Nov. 14 (P-14241))
