U.S. Senator Mark Begich will participate in two primary public events during the Alaska Federation of Natives 2012 Convention, “Success Beyond Barriers.” Begich is hosting a small-business roundtable to discuss the challenges and opportunities of small business ownership in rural Alaska. Billed as an opportunity for those interested in starting a business in rural Alaska to hear from the experts, the panel will include Renee Johnson, business programs specialist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program, Sam Dickey, Alaska state deputy director with the Small Business Administration, Andrew Crow, cooperative program manager with the University of Alaska Center for Economic Development and Moses Kritz of Togiak Fisheries. The discussion will take place at 1 p.m. in the Tubughnenq’ 5 room on the second floor.
On Saturday afternoon at 2:15 p.m., Begich will address convention delegates in a speech that will address veterans issues, health care, bypass mail, essential air service, federal fisheries disaster declarations, energy costs, sustainable housing, education and preserving voting rights.
