Labor & Transportation Departments Team Up for Construction Career Day in Anchorage
JUNEAU, Alaska—The Alaska Construction Career Day will provide an opportunity for students to build their skills on Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Delaney Park Strip in Anchorage.
The Alaska Departments of Labor and Workforce Development and Transportation and Public Facilities are again joining forces to provide a career and technical education opportunity that focuses on the construction industry.
“While previous programs have been held in Palmer and Kenai, this is the first event to be held in conjunction with the First Alaskans Institute’s Youth and Elders Conference so that students from rural Alaska can attend,” Labor Commissioner Dianne Blumer said.
Sponsors include Alaska training trusts, construction companies, career and technical educators, and trade and professional organizations.
Students will be able to explore interactive exhibits, trade industry displays and heavy equipment demonstrations. Planned activities include hands-on participation with welding, surveying, electrical wiring, spike driving and drilling.
Every student at the free exposition will receive a hardhat, safety equipment and a construction career information book. Additional career day information is available online at akconstructioncareerdays.org.
