Governor Amends Disaster Declaration for September Storms

October 19, 2012, Anchorage, Alaska - Governor Sean Parnell today amended his September state disaster declaration to include the Municipality of Anchorage, the Denali Borough, the Copper River Regional Educational Attendance Area (REAA), and the Yukon-Koyukuk REAA, as well as the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the Alaska Gateway REAA, and the Chugach REAA.

Governor Parnell declared the state disaster on September 21 during the severe storms that impacted Southcentral and Interior Alaska.

The Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and officials from the affected jurisdictions are conducting joint damage assessments. This process will allow the state to determine whether a request for federal assistance is warranted for this disaster emergency.
