AIDEA and AEA Mourn Loss of Former Board Member
(Anchorage) – The management and staff of the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) and Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) offer our condolences to the family of former Board member and Chairman John Winther, who died Sunday at the age of 67.
“John was a lifelong Alaskan and valuable member of the Board,” said AIDEA Executive Director Ted Leonard. “His more than 45 years in commercial fishing enabled him to bring a unique business perspective to the table, and this was greatly appreciated.”
Winther, of Petersburg, was appointed to the Board in 2003. He was reappointed in 2005 and again in 2007, when he was voted Vice Chairman. Winther was reappointed in 2009, and in 2010 his Board colleagues voted him Chairman. He resigned in early 2011 due to health reasons.
“John cared deeply for Alaska’s economic development and for our energy future,” said AEA Executive Director Sara Fisher-Goad. “Our hearts go out to his family at this difficult time.”
