Reality show host to speak at local schools

GCI is hosting teen behavior  expert, author and television host Josh Shipp to speak at Dimond and Bartlett  High School on Wednesday, Oct. 26.  Shipp  is renowned as a teen guru for his motivational speeches with an  in-your-face-but-on-your-side approach and has been dubbed by Fox News as the  "Dr. Phil for teens."

"I listened to him speak in San  Francisco and knew he would resonate with Alaska teens," said Bob Ormberg, GCI  vice president of product and content management. "Education is important to  every community and we're proud to host this event with our generous sponsors  from Halogen TV and the cooperation of the Anchorage School District."

Shipp is the host of the Halogen  TV series, "Jump Shipp," and is the author of "The Teen's Guide to World  Domination," a book about surviving the teen years.  He has been named a CNN "Young Person Who  Rocks" and was listed on Inc. Magazine's "30 under 30: America's Coolest Young  Entrepreneurs." He has made numerous national media appearances on MTV, Comedy  Central, NBC and Fox.

Shipp is no stranger to  surviving the teen years. His past has played an integral part of his  commitment to reaching out to teens and young adults. Shipp was abandoned by  his parents as a newborn and then shuffled through the foster care system as a  child and teen. In the end, Shipp prevailed and has dedicated his career to  improving the lives of teens and young adults through motivational talks and  the power of laughter.
