John Barnes Named Senior Vice President for Hilcorp in Alaska


Barnes will oversee all Alaska operations

Hilcorp Energy Company announced today that John A. Barnes has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Exploration and Production for its subsidiary, Hilcorp Alaska, LLC.

Barnes, who will be based in Anchorage and will oversee all Alaska operations for Hilcorp, has significant experience working Alaska assets both as a producer and as a contractor. He has spent the majority of his career in Alaska, although he also has experience in the Permian Basin and the UK. After graduating from the Colorado School of Mines with a petroleum engineering degree in 1980, Barnes started his career at Marathon Oil Company, where he gained experience in reservoir engineering, production operations and management while working in Alaska, West Texas, the North Sea, and Houston. In 2008, he joined CH2MHill, an engineering services company, serving most recently as Senior Vice President of Operations & Maintenance Services, responsible for global operations including Alaska North Slope, Kenai and Russia.

A committed member of the community, Barnes serves on the school board for Grace Christian School and has also been a member of the boards of directors for the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce and the Resource Development Council, along with filling a variety of volunteer and leadership roles in the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
