Bezek Durst Seiser Architects Is Awarded The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Design in Excellence Award
Bezek Durst Seiser (BDS) is pleased to announce the acceptance of the 2011 Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Seattle Chapter Design in Excellence Award. BDS was recognized with SAME's Silver Award on behalf of the U.S. Coast Guard for the Cordova Housing Replacement Project, completed in 2010. SAME is the premier professional military engineering association in the United States and unites architecture, engineering, construction facility management and environmental in the public and private sectors.
The project merits included improvements to the Guard's operations, complexity of the design solution, innovation in design and construction, sustainability elements incorporated into the design and interagency cooperation. The 24 unit Coast Guard Housing project presented a unique challenge: designing a cost effective, energy efficient, environmentally sensitive home that could accommodate the special needs of U.S. Coast Guard families. BDS's solution was designed for the lifestyle and environmental context of the region.
The development received a third-party, LEED Silver certification based on square footage, low energy consumption and overall environmental impact reduction. The US Coast Guard housing project has not only benefited the development's residents; it has also strengthened the community of Cordova by increasing the overall desirability of the post.
Bezek Durst Seiser (BDS) is a full service architecture, planning and roof technology firm shaping innovative military, educational and institutional environments in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. BDS is proud to celebrate its 30th year in business and looks forward to many more years of excellence in design.
