BLM-Alaska Receives Safety Award
Anchorage - Bureau of Land Management Director Bob Abbey today presented the second annual BLM Director’s Awards to agency employees for exceptional public service. The BLM-Alaska State Office received the Director’s Safety Award in recognition of their efforts to create a safe and healthy workplace for BLM employees.
“This award recognizes our efforts to make safety our highest priority and to not stopping at good enough. Even where we could have been content with our safety record, our employees continued to find ways to raise the standard,” said BLM-Alaska State Director Bud Cribley. “A safe and healthy workplace is the basis of our success as an agency – it shows our commitment to taking care of each other and to being good stewards of public resources.”.
Over the past fiscal year, all Alaska field offices conducted intensive one- to two-week field safety training “boot camps” to provide the training needed to send employees into the field to perform their seasonal work. The state safety office also invested a significant amount of time and funding into training, certifying and equipping a new Alaska State Office Collateral Duty Safety Officer to perform wilderness first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) training in-house.
