ACTION ALERT: Fire Island Wind
FIRE ISLAND WIND ACTION UPDATE:
In June, after years of negotiation, Chugach Electric Association signed an agreement with Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI) to purchase electricity from the Fire Island Wind project. Under the contract, the price Chugach would have to pay for the wind power would remain constant for the next 25 years, a typical advantage of a renewable energy project that does not rely on fuel with volatile prices.
However, the project still faces one major hurdle.
The contract between Chugach and CIRI must still be approved by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA). The RCA held a four-day hearing on the issue last week and a decision is expected from the Commission on October 10.
Now is the time to let others know how you feel about this important issue, including writing letters to the editor.
