Rep. Young Receives Denali Award
Fairbanks, Alaska - Alaskan Congressman Don Young was awarded the Denali Award at the Alaska Federation of Natives Convention this past week. The Denali Award is an annual honor given to a non-Native for contributions to the Alaska Native community.
"My friends at AFN managed to keep this award a surprise from me," said Rep. Young. "I was incredibly humbled and honored to learn I was this year's recipient. I got my start in politics because my wife Lu, a Gwich'in Athabascan, didn't feel like the Native people were being properly represented in the state at the time. The Alaska Native community is the heart of Alaska and has always been incredibly important to me. I will continue to serve you all and our great state to the best of my abilities and I thank the Alaska Federation of Natives for this great honor."
The mission of the Alaska Federation of Natives is to enhance and promote the cultural, economic and political voice of the entire Alaska Native community.
