Groups Continue to Support Kawasaki Add to Momentum in the Final Week

(Fairbanks) Citing his accomplishments and record of support on key public safety issues as a member of the Legislature, the Public Safety Employee Association, (PSEA) today announced its endorsement for Rep. Scott Kawasaki and his re-election to the State House. PSEA joins with the Alaska Professional Firefighters Association (APFA), the Alaska Correctional Officers Association (ACOA) and the Fairbanks Fire Department in supporting his campaign.

"As a member of the subcommittees on Public Safety and Corrections, I have fought for key legislation to protect Alaskan citizens and ensure Alaskans feel safe in their homes." Kawasaki said.

PSEA, APFA and ACOA represent thousands public safety professionals across Fairbanks and the entire state including troopers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, correctional officers and prison guards. The Public Safety Employee Association, Alaska Professional Firefighters Association and Alaska Correctional Officers Association endorsements mark the first statewide public safety endorsements in the 2010 State House Races for Fairbanks.

Kawasaki added to his largest list of endorsements since the Legislator first won office in 2006. The endorsements to date include the National Rifle Association, Alaska Conservation Voters, National Education Association, Teamsters, Alaska Public Employee Association, Alaska Political Womens Caucus, People for the American Way Action Fund, Cabaret, Hotel and Restaurant Retailers, American Federation of Labor and Congress of International Organizations, Laborers Local 942, Laborers Local 341, Laborers Local 71, Alaska State Employee Association, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 375, Fairbanks Central Council, Carpenters Local 1281 to name a few. Kawasaki noted that he also received more than 550 individual campaign contributions and hundreds of individual endorsements to retain the District 9 seat.

Of the endorsement process, Kawasaki said, "I am excited to receive the support of groups like the NRA and the ACV who are sometimes at odds in policy. It shows that I have a balanced and individual approach down in Juneau where I am able to bring groups together."

Kawasaki added, "In the end, the endorsement that really matters will be from the folks who vote for me in District 9 on Tuesday."
