PeaceHealth Joins Quality and Cost Improvement Efforts Addressing Reform

Seven-Hospital System to Participate in Premier Healthcare Alliance ACO Collaborative, Harm Prevention Program

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PeaceHealth, a not-for-profit health system with hospitals, medical groups and joint-venture partnerships, has joined two Premier healthcare alliance efforts addressing health reform to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of care.
"As an owner of Premier, we've seen the value the alliance brings to its membership"
Serving patients and communities across Alaska, Washington and Oregon, PeaceHealth is now a member of the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Readiness Collaborative, in collaboration with more than 45 participating health systems.

The healthcare system has also joined Premier's QualityConnectTM performance improvement program and will use QualityAdvisorTM, a newly enhanced solution within the program.

QualityConnect uses the nation's largest comparative database to integrate quality, safety and cost data to help hospitals prevent harm, such as reducing hospital-acquired conditions (HACs) to enhance patient outcomes and preserve Medicare margins. Program members have saved more than $284 million in the past year through reductions in readmissions, patient length of stay, complications and mortalities.

"As an owner of Premier, we've seen the value the alliance brings to its membership," said PeaceHealth President and CEO Alan Yordy. "PeaceHealth is eager to expand this partnership as a part of our ongoing efforts to keep patients safe and healthy in a cost-effective manner."

According to Premier President and CEO Susan DeVore, "The quality improvement and cost containment work that alliance members like PeaceHealth have been conducting for years is exactly what health reform is driving at. They're already implementing necessary reforms that will help ensure the care they provide will continue to be sustainable and highly effective under any circumstances."

Members of the ACO Readiness Collaborative learn best practices and start to build the critical components of accountable care, including a patient-centered foundation that designs the ACO from a patient's perspective to foster better engagement, satisfaction and increased accountability for health.

QualityAdvisor facilitates physician, executive and data analyst communication regarding performance improvement. It also addresses value-based purchasing and The Joint Commission Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation requirements by identifying drivers behind outcomes. In addition, users can now benefit from KnowledgeBox®, a Web-enabled dashboard allowing hospital executives to easily view performance gaps and access best practices for improvement.

QualityAdvisor users learn key elements of success from top performers by leveraging clinical process expertise and knowledge from Premier's national performance improvement projects such as: the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services/Premier Hospital Quality Incentive DemonstrationTM, a model for hospital value-based purchasing legislation; the QUEST®: High Performing Hospitals collaborative; and its new ACO collaboratives.
