Millett Disappointed by Interior Dept's Decision on OCS Drilling
Interior Secretary Ignores 2011 Drilling Season in Alaska
Tuesday, October 12, 2010, Anchorage, Alaska – Today's decision by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to only lift the moratorium on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico was greeted with disappointment by Rep. Charisse Millett, R-Anchorage.
"Shell is ready and waiting to begin responsible oil exploration in the Beaufort Sea in 2011. While I'm glad to see deepwater offshore drilling will resume in the Gulf of Mexico, Secretary Salazar's decision ignored one of the most promising regions for a major oil discovery in the country and it sits in just a few hundred feet of water. A lot of Alaskans will have to wait for the good paying jobs that come with offshore drilling while the federal government sits on Shell's proposed development plan."
Representative Millett is Co-chair of the House Special Committee on Energy.
