Alyeska Resort Recognizes In-House Talent and Promotes Tysen Gregersen to Director of Facilities & Grounds


September 27, 2010 (Girdwood, AK) –Alyeska Resort announces the promotion of Tysen Gregersen to Director of Facilities and Grounds effective this month. Tysen has been with the resort since 2002 and in that time, has shown tremendous progression leading up to this recent advancement. With over 15 years of construction experience, Tysen specializes in project management, construction design, and HVAC mechanics.

Tysen was actively involved with phase one and two of the $8 million renovation of The Hotel Alyeska resulting in upgraded guests rooms and common areas, as well as redesigned restaurant spaces. On the mountain, he designed and built the new Dual Start Race Building and has been systematically updating a number of resort out-buildings. In 2008, Tysen received a nomination for the Alaska Hotel and Lodging Association’s Stars of the Industry Award.

In his new role as director of facilities and grounds, Tysen oversees a team of 25 and manages building maintenance, engineering, and grounds upkeep at the resort. Prominent resort buildings under his care include the 304-room Hotel Alyeska and upper tram terminal located at 2,300 feet and accessed via the Alyeska Aerial Tram. In addition, there are satellite buildings located on-mountain and at the ski area base including the Daylodge, Sitzmark Bar & Grill, as well as resort-owned residential units and an employee housing complex. The role is also heavily involved in grounds-specific functions as well such as landscaping and snow removal.

Raised in Montpelier in southeast Idaho, Tysen attended Utah State University focusing on mechanical engineering and Bridgerland Applied Technology achieving an associates degree in building construction. Surrounded by mountains and the outdoors lifestyle for much of his life, Tysen arrived in southcentral Alaska in 2000 lured by the vast mountains and available backcountry terrain. He enjoys snowboarding and snow machining, as well as fishing the Kenai and mountain biking in the Chugach Mountain Range.
