Alaska Regional Hospital Sponsors Tuesday Night Races
(ANCHOARGE, Alaska - October 7, 2009) Anchorage runners may have noticed a few changes in the Tuesday Night Races this year. The new finish chutes, post race snacks and water are courtesy of the Alaska Regional Hospital. In addition to these donations, Alaska Regional is giving away fleece hats and water bottles to race participants.
In total, Alaska Regional Hospital has donated over $15,000.00 in cash and in-kind donations. A $5,000.00 cash donation to the Anchorage Park Foundation went toward a new sound system and new timing devices for the Tuesday Night Races and other community events. Alaska Regional has also provided jackets for race volunteers who dedicate their time each fall to make the Tuesday Night Races a success.
Alaska Regional approached the city in May to offer their sponsorship of the perennial favorite. "We were thrilled when the Parks and Recreation Department accepted our sponsorship offer," said Kjerstin Lastufka, Marketing Director for Alaska Regional Hospital. "We are committed to supporting healthy opportunities here in Anchorage and the Tuesday Night Races are such a great way to get involved in our community."
The Tuesday Night Races aren't just for competitive runners. The races have been a fall tradition for many families. Children of all ages participate, some one their own and some who still need mom and dad pushing behind the stroller. "This is a great opportunity to introduce my son to a fun and healthy activity," said race participant, Melanie Cooper.
Alaska Regional recognizes how popular the Tuesday Night Races are to the Parks and Recreation Department and the Anchorage community. "We not only want to make these races the best they can be; we want them to grow too. This is such a wonderful family event, we encourage our community to come out, stay healthy, and join us," said Lastufka.
As Anchorage's city budget continues to tighten, corporate sponsorship of these community events may be essential to ensure residents continue to enjoy the quality of life that has become synonymous with life in Anchorage.
As an extra incentive to run fast, Alaska Regional is sponsoring the post race results on KMXS (Mix 103.1). Every Wednesday during KMXS' morning broadcast, the top three male and female finishers for the Farm and Lightening Leagues will be announced. The following week's race will also be announced along with specific event instructions.
