The Mitzvah Mall Returns to Anchorage 2013

The Mitzvah Mall Returns to Anchorage

Congregation Beth Sholom is hosting Anchorage’s annual “Mitzvah Mall.” (Mitzvah is Hebrew for commandment and we are commanded to do good deeds) Last year’s event raised more than $10,000 worth of goodwill in three hours! This year we are having some music to add to the fun! Musicians will play acoustical music while you shop!

Think about a bizarre bazaar: an alternative gift fair. There are still rooms filled with booths, but the “vendors” are nonprofit organizations and charities. Instead of buying more material gifts and stuff, shoppers can donate to local non-profits on behalf of friends, family or others on their holiday gift list. Give a gift that keeps on giving.

  • Instead of another necktie, how about taxi fare to a medical appointment?
  • Instead of more candles, how about a scholarship for a child to join their class on a field trip?
  • Instead of more electronic games, how about a calling card for a soldier to phone home?

Sunday, November 24

12 noon to 3 p.m.

Congregation Beth Sholom

“Gifts” are in various price ranges beginning at $5. Shoppers receive decorative gift cards to present to the person in whose honor the gift was purchased. What a mitzvah:  resisting holiday consumerism, doing good deeds, bestowing a wonderful gift and having fun doing it.

Join us in making this holiday season special – for your friends and family and for the other families you’ll be helping, too. Entry is free.
