Opening Day at Alyeska Resort: November 28

November 23, 2013 (Girdwood, Alaska) – Alyeska Resort’s ski season officially begins on Thursday, November 28, 2013 and chairlifts are scheduled to be running from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Once the snow pack and coverage has been evaluated by ski patrol, announcements will be made regarding specific terrain and chairlifts that will be available to the public. Full base area services will be open, including Mountain Learning Center ski and snowboard school, rental shop and slopeside dining at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill.

New at Alyeska Resort for the 2013/14 season is Glacier Bowl Express, a high‐speed detachable quad chairlift that has replaced the old Chair 6, which was installed in 1988. The new chairlift was manufactured and installed by Doppelmayr USA Inc. at an estimated cost of $6 million. Servicing high volumes of skiers and riders, Glacier Bowl Express will provide primary lift access to the upper mountain trails at Alyeska Resort. Popular skiing and snowboarding runs accessed by Chair 6 include Christmas Chute and the North Face, Silvertip, Trapline, Mighty Mite and High Traverse.
