McGuire appoints Clune as Statewide Coordinator
Retired School Superintendent Lee Clune joins Lesil McGuire for Lt. Governor Campaign as Statewide Coordinator
State Senator Lesil McGuire, candidate for Lt. Governor of Alaska in the 2014 Primary Election in August, announced the selection of Lee Clune as her statewide campaign coordinator this morning.
Clune first came to Alaska in 1947 with his parents when his father, a senior captain with the newly formed Alaska Airlines, was transferred to the territory as a pilot. Clune’s impressive academic and professional credentials include serving as the superintendent of schools in both the Delta/Greeley and Yakutat School Districts, as well as an assistant superintendent in the Nome School District. Prior to his tenure as a superintendent throughout the state, Clune was also a teacher in Fairbanks and later served as director of Federal Programs & Public Relations for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District and then as the state administrator for Career & Vocational Education for the Department of Education. He holds a B.A. in Drama/Education from Boise State University, Masters from University of Alaska Fairbanks in Education, and pursued his Ed.D. from the University of Hawaii in Education/Leadership.
“I’ve lived in Senator McGuire’s House and then Senate districts in South Anchorage since she first filed for office 13 years ago. I remain impressed with her attention to state and local issues, as well as her advocacy for sustainable resource development and economy. Results matter, and she indisputably has had one of the most remarkable legislative careers since statehood. And as a husband to my wife Deb for over 47 years, and father of two and grandfather of five, and with our daughter in law enforcement, I value that Senator McGuire has been a champion of victims’ rights and supporter of families, education and public safety,” said Clune.
“It’s an honor to have someone of Lee Clune’s caliber believing in my candidacy enough to support our organization as a coordinator. He will make our effort that much more successful with his deep roots in Alaska and acumen in so many policy fields. Our campaign welcomes him,” said McGuire.
