Line down on the Seward Highway
At about 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, one phase of the 115-kilovolt transmission line detached and fell across the Seward Highway just north of Girdwood. The incident caused breakers to open at substations in Anchorage Cooper Landing, cutting power to more than 2,000 metered locations. Dispatchers were able to restore service to all customers within about 15 minutes. The Troopers have the road closed. Chugach is mobilizing a crew to respond. There is as yet no estimated time of restoration.
