Bean’s Café and The Children’s Lunchbox in need of Thanksgiving donations


Anchorage – Bean’s Café, Inc. a local non-profit, is in need of donations of food items for Thanksgiving meals.  This year the organization will offer two dinners; The Children’s Lunchbox will sponsor a Community Fall Feast on Thursday, November 21 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Clark Middle School, 150 Bragaw Street.  Bean’s Café will serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November 28 beginning at Noon at the Café, located at 1101 E. Third Avenue. 

The following items are needed for the events:

  • Boneless Turkey
  • Boneless Ham
  • Stuffing Cubes
  • Dinner Rolls
  • Cranberry Sauce (#10 Size Cans If Possible)
  • Canned Corn (#10 Size Cans If Possible)
  • Canned Sweet Potatoes (#10 Size Cans If Possible)
  • Canned Green Beans (#10 Size Cans If Possible)
  • French Fried Onion Pieces
  • Cream Of Mushroom Soup
  • Assorted Salad Dressings
  • Whipped Cream (Cans)
  • Store Bought Pies
  • Coffee
  • Fresh Fruit (Bananas, Oranges, Apples)
  • Butter
  • Assorted Salad Dressings
  • Cream & Fruit Pies Store Bought Please (Yum Yum)
  • Cream Soups
  • Whipped Cream Cans
  • Dried French Onion
  • Paper Items: Plates, 8 oz. Cups, Plastic Ware, Napkins
  • Toilet Paper

Donations can be dropped off at Bean’s Café, 1101 E. Third Avenue Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Monetary donations can also be made online at www.beanscafe.org or by calling 433-8620. Bean’s Café executive director, Lisa Sauder says, “We are so grateful to the Anchorage community for all they do to support our programs.  These holiday dinners are so appreciated by our clients.  All donations to make Thanksgiving special for those in need are appreciated.”

Bean’s Café, a part of the Anchorage community since February 1979, maintains a center where the hungry and homeless are provided with hot nutritious meals, a warm and safe day shelter, as well as information and referral assistance to health and human service programs. The Children’s Lunchbox, a program of Bean’s Café, has been serving meals to hungry children in Anchorage since 1998.  The program is the largest non-profit child nutrition program in Alaska and is currently serving over 9,100 meals each week to hungry children in Anchorage.
