Alaska-Owned LifeMed Alaska LLC Medical Transport Service Receives Prestigious Accreditation
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — LifeMed Alaska is among an elite group of emergency medical transport services to receive accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS). As of October 19, 2013, there were only 165 accredited programs in the world. LifeMed Alaska is the only Alaska-owned program with rotor wing, fixed wing and ground operations to achieve such accreditation. The company operates bases in Anchorage, Bethel, Fairbanks, Palmer and Soldotna.
“I could not be more proud of our dedicated team,” said LifeMed Alaska CEO, Scott Kirby. “This accreditation is a validation of the high quality patient care and aviation safety we practice each and every day as we serve the communities of Alaska.”
As part of the accreditation process, LifeMed Alaska’s team (which included aircraft vendors Air Methods, Aero Air and Grant Aviation) voluntarily undertook the inspection and accreditation process at each of its five bases. The process included on-site surveys and a comprehensive review of the company’s operations. The company was evaluated on patient care, safety standards, quality improvement activities, education, equipment, staffing, communications, maintenance and administration.
“This accreditation underscores the commitment to excellence that our crews embrace when providing medical services to our patients and the agencies that refer them to us,” Kirby added.
CAMTS is a non-profit peer review organization dedicated to improving the quality of patient care and safety of the transport environment for services providing rotor wing, fixed wing and ground transport services. To receive accreditation, a medical transport service must be in substantial compliance with the CAMTS accreditation standards and demonstrate a high level of overall quality in service.
