State convenes 2nd annual Strategic & Critical Minerals Summit
(Fairbanks, AK) – The State of Alaska and University of Alaska Fairbanks are sponsoring their second annual Alaska Strategic and Critical Minerals Summit in Fairbanks on Nov. 30. This all-day event will focus on Alaska’s potential for exploration, development and processing of strategic minerals, which include rare-earth elements (REEs).
At last year’s summit, Governor Sean Parnell laid out a five-part strategy to foster development of a strategic minerals sector in Alaska. The focus of this year’s event is to discuss the state’s implementation of the strategy and related activity undertaken by the private sector, UAF and others.
“An important goal of this summit is to stimulate private-sector investment, activity and responsible resource development within Alaska’s minerals sector,” said Natural Resources Commissioner Dan Sullivan.
The summit agenda includes presentations by distinguished speakers and by experts from the minerals industry, state and federal agencies, UAF, and Alaska Native corporations. An informal press availability is planned from 12-12:30 p.m. The full agenda is available at http://dnr.alaska.gov/commis/priorities/Minerals_summit_agenda_final.pdf.
